The Perpetual Education Fund (PEF) loan program helps Church members over the age of 18 acquire academic training that allows them to acquire skills that are in high demand locally, allowing them to begin their path to self-sufficiency. Check the long-term careers available for your country Here.

Check the latest updates Here, which are effective as of November 1, 2024.

Since 2001, this program has touched the lives of more than 90,000 people around the world.  Through loan repayments and generous donations, this fund will continue to build individuals and families out of poverty and self-sufficiency for decades..

To learn more about the origins of PEF, you can read President Gordon B. Hinckley's general conference address (“The Perpetual Education Fund”, Ensign, May 2001, page 51).

Loan repayment

Every time you make a loan payment, you give another person the opportunity to become self-sufficient by acquiring an educational background. Your honesty in repaying the funds you borrowed will bless your life, your family, and the lives of those who come after you.

How do I repay the loan?

After the loan is approved and you begin your studies, you will begin making payments, which will be very small while you are studying. Once you have graduated, you will begin making payments on your account balance, you should be able to pay off the loan over a ten year period.

If you are having financial difficulties, medical problems, or other issues that make repaying your PEF loan very difficult, you may qualify for a temporary loan restructuring. Contact an PEF agent via live chat or email, under the “help” tab, from the PEF Student Portal, An agent will be able to give you more information.
